Mission Friends,
Several of you know that one of the associations that would eventually become the Covenant denom-ination (of which we are a part) was called Mission Friends.
Our mission year (as I have been calling it) begins on September 19 this year! We are grateful to be able to restart our Sunday School programs for both youth and adults, and will be launching Bible studies, prayer groups, and service opportunities for all ages in the near future.
We hope that you will be ‘on mission’ with us this year. One way to do that is to invite people back to church. There is always a ‘national back to church Sunday’, but this year it corresponds with the start of Sunday School for us, and it is a great opportunity to think through a few groups of people who need an invite:
1. Our own people who may have been missing this summer or over the COVID year last year. Don’t assume that they were on vacation or are planning to be here in the Fall, give them a call! The worst that can happen is that they know they are seen and missed.
2. People in your life that you have invited before and have gotten responses like, “you know, I should go sometime” or “I have been meaning to get back into church”. Having a Sunday like “Back to Church Sunday” is a good excuse for them to finally follow through.
3. Former church attenders (maybe even as kids) Do you know people who grew up with some level of church attendance, but now are not regular in coming to church? This can be an oppor-tunity for the Spirit to give them a fresh push back.
4. ALL OF OUR YOUNG ADULTS WHO CAME THROUGH SUNDAY SCHOOL. Sorry for yelling…. But did you know that we have many former youth that you nurtured and loved, and they still live in Springfield? Give them a call or better yet, let them know that you can pick them up.
5. A personal call to our refugee families. Can you call a family and let them know that we are all gathering on September 19, that Sunday school starts that week?
6. Yourself. I hope you are planning to attend. If you aren’t able, do you know how to view the service online? If not, or you don’t have the technology needed, let Toni know in the office and we will work to help you be able to access our service.
